Using Wikipedia as a Traffic
Source
Wikipedia is an essential
source of information for many many Internet Users. The
site itself ranks highly for tens of thousands of
keywords often making it the first point of call for an
information hungry visitor. Since wikipedia is open
source, basically meaning that all of the content is
contributed by its readers it is possible to use
Wikipedia to your websites advantage.
First of all, Wikipedia doesn't not like people
spamming them with links. Your link must be relevant to
the topic that you post it in & also it must be of
valuable contribution to the page. Less popular niche
pages are much easier to add to & also allow you to
get much more targeted traffic.
I have a few sites that get over 200 visitors per day just
from Wikipedia alone, however I did spend a lot of time helping
the community & writing articles and also developing my own
sites to were of great value to the visitors.
So what's the morale of this article, Wikipedia can be used
as a great source of traffic provided your site is relevant. If
you are posting an external link to your site in Wikipedia
here's a few simple rules to follow:
Don't post it at the top above all the other links, they
have most likely been around long before you, if you do this to
get the most traffic you'll get removed.
1. Don't post more than one link on Wikipedia at a time,
if you post the same link in 3 different areas it'll get
deleted quicker than spam email.
2. Make sure you link is relevant on the topic.
3. Don't link to Made for Adsense sites or site created
specifically for making money.
Also create your own pages, add your own content about your
specific product, this has also proved to be very useful for
traffic & seo purposes. Happy Wiking! (Is that even a word,
who knows :p)
